Annapolis Book Festival

  • Key School 534 Hillsmere Dr Annapolis, MD, 21403 United States (map)

Join us at the Key School in Annapolis to celebrate a day of reading and comics! We'll be in the Comic Key Area (Arts Building) with other artists and Third Eye Comics! This year, we're offering a variety of workshops.

Drawing Demos

Hero Mask Making Workshop: 10am – 11am, 12pm - 1pm & 2pm - 3pm

Come into the Comic Key and claim your new Superhero identity by making your very own Superhero mask. If you wish to become a Supper Speedster or a Mighty Ranger, Art Way Alliance has the supplies to help you save the world and look awesome while doing it.

How to Transform a Princess into a Warrior: 11am – 12pm

Sit back and draw along as we guide you into the wonderful land of fairy-tales. Special Guest Artist Ashley Gonzales will show you how to draw some of your favorite Princesses and even create a few of your own. But wait! What if your Princess ever needs to save herself one day? Could she do it? Don't worry. Ashley will teach you how to turn your newly drawn character into an empowered Warrior Princess. Evil forces beware - these Princesses will pack a mighty punch.

Heaven and Hell Comics Presents: Creating a Short Story in an Upside Down World: 1pm – 2pm

Some of the best stories feature protagonists who experience a sort of mixed up world. Perfect examples would be stories written by Dr. Seuss (The Cat in the Hat, All the Things You Can Think), Lewis Carroll (Alice in Wonderland series), C.S Lewis (The Chronicles of Narnia) and Norton Jester (The Phantom Tollbooth). Continuing this tradition, join us as we discuss what makes such a story compelling and create an original hero to send them on his or her own upside down adventure.

Animation Workshops – 3pm – 4pm

The Bouncing Ball the Basics to Animation (30min)

Bring your drawings to life with these simple steps and learn the basics of animation.

Bringing your Toys to Life Tips on Stop Motion (30min)

Make your own animated films with just a camera and your toys. This workshop tutorial will teach children of all ages the basic methods used to create movies like Boxtrolls and Nightmare before Christmas.

Among the aforementioned workshop artists, come find Mikki Clay, Monique Graham, Jimmy Horner, Jake Heagy, Khuong Huynh, Tasha Fuller, and Pauli Kohberger. It's going to be a great time!
