Baltimore Book Festival
Phil Cho describes his art process.
The Baltimore Book Festival was a great success for Art Way Alliance!
With our first panel, art demos, and Drawing Word Games, AWA had a great time by the Baltimore Harbor. The Charm City Comic Book Pavillion was loads of fun. We met great people and made great connections that we can't wait to further explore.
On Friday, our favorite Batman obsessed artist, Phil Cho, hosted a Superhero Figure Drawing Demo. Kids of all ages were amazed by how fast he could draw beloved Superheroes without a thought.
On Saturday, Darren Soto hosted his famous Drawing Word Game and Andrew Aydin, co-author of March - was present to sign copies of the Civil Rights graphic novel and show off excerpts of the second volume. Aydin was also a part of Art Way Alliance's first ever panel, Conservation Through Comics. Along with Matt Dembicki and Jason Rodriguez, who focused on conservation efforts, Aydin discussed how comics can help change the world. The panel was hosted by the highly capable Andy Hershberger.
Andy Hershberger, Andrew Aydin, Matt Dembicki, and Jason Rodriquez speak about the impact of comics.
On Sunday, the last day of the fantastic weekend, Darren Soto again spoke. This time about character design. The class had children and adults design their own character with imput from Soto himself. Students of the makeshift class learned how to flesh out their design and create their own "character sheet" as a means of conveying the character to others.
Damien Duckett, colored penciler master with his inspired protege.
Throughout the day, we were amazed by the men, women and children who expressed interest in our work. From the parent interested in our programming to the kid inspired to draw their own Ninja turtle, we met people who can be described as nothing less than amazing. We enjoyed meeting them.
We must also thank the many artists and guests who came out to help us during this busy weekend: Ashley Gonzales, Darren Soto, Damien Duckett, Matt Dembicki, Jason Rodriguez, Andrew Aydin, Andy Hershberger and Phil Cho. Without them, the weekend would not have been possible.
