Annapolis Book Festival/Creator Con

On April 25, 2015, Art Way Alliance was a part of two events - the Annapolis Book Festival and Creator Con.  Both events were quite a success, and we're telling you all about them.

Annapolis Book Festival

Many artists came with us to Annapolis, including Pauli Kohberger, and Monique Graham. Visitors got to speak to artists and even buy some of their work in the Artist Corner.

During the Festival, we had three packed workshops. Ashley Gonzales taught two of these. During the first workshop, Ashley taught participants how to draw beloved princesses, in this case Cinderella, as warrior fighters. During the second workshop, participants learned from Ashley how to combine two beloved, imaginative characters from Dr. Seuss's books and Alice in Wonderland to make a completely unique character. In one instance, she combined The Cat in the Hat with the Mad Hatter. During another mash-up, she blended aspects from The Lorax and the Chester Cat.

During the third workshop, animators Jimmy Horne and Jake Heagy taught kids how to make their own cartoon by turning a yellow post-it pad into a flip book. Children animated books opening and closing and bouncing balls with Jimmy. Others got to learn stop motion animation from Jake with a cell phone camera, toys, and hand fabricated characters. The kids really liked it, and we had a great time.

Creator Con

Creator Con had everything.  Artists, video gamers, and more came out to celebrate innovation and creation. It was a fun time where family could come discover panels that taught about creating a podcast from Ray, Tim & Rob. A silent auction was held by Call That Art, where some of the proceeds were donated to charity.  In addition, Game Truck, Third Eye Comics, and food trucks were provided as well.

And best of all, Comic Cupcakes gave some of most delicious cupcakes out to participants, artists, and volunteers. What other cons do that?
