Farpoint 27
It’s always a treat to start the Convention season with Farpoint Comic Con. This year, AWA encountered many lifelong fans of the event. Multiple attendees mentioned that their parents brought them to the event when they were children. Now, these same sci-fi enthusiasts bring their own kids to Farpoint to continue the tradition. One group of family Cosplayers in particular mentioned that they used the show as a gathering for their family reunion.
Cosplayers are always a fun treat, and we encountered some particularly great ones at Farpoint this year. A Cosplayer dressed as Gandolf had an amazing staff. When asked where he got the item, he revealed that he discovered a branch that had twisted itself around another branch in his friend’s backyard. The Cosplayer was able to cut it down and refine it for this particular Cosplay.
Another, younger Cosplayer and YouTuber named Violette Verse was dressed as Sister Night from the HBO series Watchman. Although the content of the series is a little too mature for the young girl, she was very much in character thanks to guidance from her parents, who turned what they saw in the show to teach their child about a dark historical moment. Violette has a heart of gold whose personal mission is to fight off bad feelings and leave the people she saves happier than ever. We can definitely say she accomplished her mission this weekend.
But our favorite moment of the weekend has to be our Pokemon Go and Draw workshop. Led by instructors Anna Richardson (Middnite Designs) and Chelsea Auernheimer, this workshop turned into a completely drawn Pokemon battle. The workshop attendees had so much fun watching the battle and providing suggestions on the power ups, power moves, and health to the instructors. Check out the video, below!
As always, thank you to Farpoint for having us. We love being a part of this event.
