Richmon! VA Comicon (2021) Recap
Last weekend, Richmond! VA ComiCon not only celebrated the return of its first show after quarantine, but also 34 years of the convention. Our attending Artist Affiliates and the con itself were kind enough to give a recap of the Kids Corner.
VA Comic Con
We were excited to have the fine folks from the Art Way Alliance at our most recent VA ComiCon. Both parents and kids seemed to get a real kick out of having an educational, entertaining and interactive component there, that allowed them to tap into their creative outlet.

The Kids Corner started out slow but, once the Pokémon battle really started, they were ready to draw them all. I focused on shape knowledge as well because they had trouble remembering their shapes. I noticed that as they realized I was making them participate that they started participating on their own, and they drew their own Poke-Variants. We also had a few workshop attendees who showed their bravery by coming up to the drawing board to apply their own shapes. We had a good number of teenagers by the way.
Attendants at the Con were pretty consistent! I enjoyed chatting with the kids who stopped by and everyone seemed pretty open to the conversation. It was lovely. I would like to do the show again. I wanted to attend previous years, but I just never made the deadline.
AWA has been a great connector for Artists like myself to get into a few local DMV shows that also support of AWA’s mission.

VA ComicCon was a breath of fresh air. It was nice to have a convention that were truly family friendly.
As a presenter at the Kids Corner, it was amazing to be able to show all of these young talented Artists a few tips. Seeing just how talented they are and the future of art was a great experience.
Art Way Alliance truly is promoting the growth and love of art to the next generation. Not to mention it shows the viability of art as a future career to all the parents.
Thank you to our artists for your work, and to Richmond VA Comicon for having us! Pictures are below.
