Good Fan Art
We asked our judges…
For Fan Art, you need to tell an interesting story. If you have a character that you like, you might want to put them in an interesting situation. If you know something unique about this character you should push that design element […]. Doing something different like having the character eating their favorite food will help make your work stand out from the crowd.
Ben Pereira (Drawful_Ben):
Mash ups can be cool! If you can make it cohesive and add color, that can be even cooler. You can draw your Fan Art the same way in your reference, but if you can draw it in your own style, that stands out to me.
I also like to see a visual story telling. What I mean by that is anything from the clothes they are wearing to the person’s attitude in the pose works for me.
Elvin Herandez (eahernandez_art):
Work to your strengths when you are drawing the character you like. Think of something that speaks to who the character is. Show your knowledge of the character. If you have one shot to draw someone like Goku from Dragon Ball Z think about […] the exciting things you know about this character. You can go with something comedic or an action packed image!
The number one thing is telling a story with your character. If you put your favorite character at the beach, how would they react in that environment. Make it a fun story and that is sure to grab the attention of the judges. Make it a fun story!
